सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने शुक्रवार को एक ऐसे आरोपी को जमानत दे दी, जो हाईकोर्ट के समक्ष आपराधिक अपील के लंबित रहने के दौरान (17 साल से अधिक) सजा काट चुका है। चीफ जस्टिस एनवी रमना, जस्टिस एएस बोपन्ना और ज‌स्टिस हिमा कोहली की बेंच ने रितु पाल बनाम उत्तर प्रदेश राज्य में जमानत देते हुए अपने आदेश में कहा, "इस तथ्य को ध्यान में रखते हुए कि याचिकाकर्ता पहले ही 14 साल और 3 महीने की वास्तविक हिरासत और छूट के साथ कुल 17 साल और 3 महीने की सजा काट चुका है, और विशेष रूप से इस तथ्य को ध्यान में रखते हुए कि सह-आरोपियों को पहले ही जमानत पर रिहा किया जा चुका है, याचिकाकर्ता का आवेदन 2012 से हाईकोर्ट के समक्ष विचाराधीन है, हम उसे जमानत देने के लिए उपयुक्त मामला मानते हैं।" बेंच ने ट्रायल कोर्ट द्वारा लगाए गए नियमों और शर्तों पर याचिकाकर्ता को जमानत देने का निर्देश दिया। याचिका में यह तर्क दिया गया था कि याचिकाकर्ता को 2004 में हुई एक घटना के लिए 14 जनवरी, 2008 को आईपीसी की धारा 302 सहपठित धारा 34 के तहत ट्रायल कोर्ट द्वारा दोषी ठहराया गया था, लेकिन सजा के निलंबन की मांग करने वाला उसका आवेदन 9 साल इलाह...
